The History of Mountnessing Football Club
Mountnessing Football Club was formed in 1922 playing in the village of Mountnessing adjacent to its renowned windmill, which is still the club’s emblem. Up until 1984 the first team played in the Southern Essex Intermediate Combination League and the reserve team played in the Romford and District League. In 1984 both teams joined the Essex Intermediate League. In 1985 the first team moved to improved facilities at St George’s Playing fields in Warley, with the reserve team playing in Harold Hill at St Neot’s playing fields until the 1993-1994 season when both teams took residence at the Warley site. Between 1985 and 1995 Mountnessing Football Club ran a third team which played in the Romford and District League. In 1996 both teams moved yet again this time to Henderson’s Sports and Social Club in Harold Park. The first team won promotion in 2006 to the Senior Premier Division, formally known as Senior Division One, where they had a successful first season finishing in forth place. The reserve team were also successful finishing fourth in Reserve Division Three, which was sufficient to achieve promotion to Reserve Division Two. In 2007 Mountnessing Football Club moved to The Football Academy in Loughton, which saw the beginning of a new era in the clubs history. The Football Academy, which was officially opened by Paul Robinson on the 18 acre site of the Bank of England’s former Britannia Sports Club in Langston Road, offers the club top level academy coaching, as well as state-of-the-art football courts, two full-sized grass football pitches and a fully-equipped fitness centre. This unique opportunity sparked immediate aspirations to grow the club. The 2007 season was equally as successful as the move with the first team winning the invitation Bill Spurgeon Charity Cup at the first time of asking and the reserve team finished runners-up in Reserve Division Two gaining promotion for the second season running to Reserve Division One. At the beginning of 2008 Mountnessing Football Club merged alliances with Boca Football Club hence the name “Mountnessing Boca”. Boca, under the guidance of Andy Swallow (The Football Academy) and former West Ham star John Moncur, operate a number of teams from under 6 to under 18 year olds. With continued growth in mind both clubs saw the merge as mandatory to fulfil future aspirations of Essex Senior League football along with forming for the first time a youth development infrastructure at The Football Academy. The 2008 season see the first team finish forth in the Senior Premier Division whilst retaining the Bill Spurgeon Charity Cup against stiff opposition. The reserve team successfully avoided relegation and finished ninth in Reserve Division One following a turbulent start. During the summer of 2009 the club disbanded from The Football Academy and Boca Football Club ending a two year relationship. With the development of Langston Road suffering further setbacks an opportunity was seized to hire a stadium and as a result the club returned to its roots having secured a ground hire agreement with Ryman Division One North, Brentwood Town Football Club.
